Shoutout to the league for promoting a derby created by the supporters, for the supporters, and showcases the black soccer community's influence on the game! Something that is easily recognizable but rarely discussed! #USL #HennyDerby

Folks have asked me why Henny is a staple in the black community, so quick facts

Black people were introduced to cognac in France during WWII, being celebrated for their heroism when they weren't in their own country...

The year World War II ended, Ebony magazine was created. Hennessy advertised in Ebony and Jet magazine and created brand loyalty, as one of the few spirits and brands in general who advertised and targeted the black community during this time...

The biggest competent may have been how Hennessy didn't do it just to exploit black people and money like other brands, as they hired black people in high executive leadership roles and worked with the black community especially during the civil rights era...

And of course, with generational loyalty, the next generation grows up in an environment with it all around & incorporates it in their art. This is where Hennessy saw a boom as actors, musicians, & important black figures would be seen or heard name dropping the beloved brand.
