It's a pity that a good number of DOCTORS don't really know much about Generic Drugs.

All they think is, different pharmaceutical companies, different effectiveness, and even challenge PHARMACISTS as if they have upto 50% knowledge about the pharmacology of drugs

1/c

compared to Pharmacists.

Unless the drug is Fake, MOST #GENERICS (& even MOST branded products) are same effectiveness (95-100%).

If a doctor prescribes a #BRANDED PRODUCT & the pharmacy doesn't have it, they simply tell the clients/Patients the best generics available.

2/cont

So it's for them to source it somewhere else or go back to the doctor.

But if it's a GENERIC PRODUCT, the Pharmacist has the right to change it to another GENERIC, "ONLY if the INITIAL DRUG is not available"

The Pharmacist will educate the Client/Patient about the change.

3/c

If the doctor's number is on the prescription, it's advisable he/she calls.
#NOTE : The Client/Patients has the final say "Not the Doctor, not the Pharmacist"

🌍 I've been to couple of countries abroad, I've seen how Doctors, Pharmacists & other health care professionals

4/c

collaborate with one & another.

GENERICS isn't a thing over there, ESPECIALLY when the Pharmacist ENDORSE IT (part of the reason why we're the 2nd MOST TRUSTED professions in the world)

😎 👇👇👇
A Good number of doctors here in Nigeria have the habit of PROMOTING some

5/c

specific GENERICS, after getting some tip from Drug Reps. Some just have an ego.

♻️ PLEASE NOTE : It isn't wrong to promote a drug, What's wrong is refusing to switch it to a generic of same Pharmacological Activity Especially when the Pharmacist endorse it. ✖️

6/cont...

Most Branded & Generics end up achieving the same pharmacological effects such as Pain Pills, Antidiabetics, etc.

👉 We're VERY CAREFUL when recommending GENERICS such as Antibiotics, Antiepileptic drugs, AntiPsychotics, Hypnotics & etc.

7/cont...

- We don't switch to a different drug Sub-classes OR drug Classes of similar activities. We DON'T!

- We don't switch to a different Generic when the prescribed medication is available.

But when the prescribed medication isn't available (Out of stock), We then recommend.

8/c

That's where the word came from in Pharmacy practice.

💔 MOST patient have LOST their lives because they went searching for what was being prescribed when same generics were available.

And for you lots that use d phrase "Prescribe it Like That"
Please come to the Pharmacy

9/c

to dispense it like that.

People Dat hvnt compounded/Reconstituted drugs before but want to lecture DRUG EXPERTS about Drugs? IRONY

Pharmacists DON'T have upto 50% knowledge about DISEASE STATES as Doctors even tho we learnt it in school for 3-4 yrs. VICE VERSA with Drugs

10/c

There are couple of Doctors that once the Pharmacist assure them of the drug effectiveness & efficacy, they go with it. TRUST.

If you really check Those Medical doctors, they're usually the smartness & friendly with other health care professionals.

11/cont.

& please to the Doctors, once a Drug EXPERT assure you of of a Generic, let go of that ego & comply.

Won't we recommend any Generic if we don't Trust d Pharmaceutical Company that manufacture it.

Please you all should search "#Incorporating_Clinical_Pharmacists_in_PCMH"

12/c

on YouTubes & Learn how Physicians collaborate with Pharmacists to promote patients outcome.

Clinical Pharmacists are even allowed to prescribe over there.

13/🔚

Imagine asking a Patient to get a particular Generic in the abroad & he/she keep searching for it in 3-6 Pharmacy outlets & then the patient dies?
The Whole medical Doctors will be sued & their licence will be on hold/ceased, while investigating the case.

14/cont

That's part of the reason why they don't do such.

We should try develop that culture too & not stressing the patient.

15/🔚 Again

We won't*
