I’m convinced Trump will lose in a landslide if mail-in voting is properly funded and implemented. So, apparently, is Trump. We better be prepared for in person voting in November no matter what. Live free or die, indeed. #Vote #VoteBidenHarris2020 washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
You may not guess it from my sometimes angry and bleak tweets, but I’m an optimist. I believe in “darkest before the dawn”, etc. I believe in cycles of history. And I believe if Trump makes clear he’s trying to take away people’s right to vote, it will backfire big time.
If Trump succeeds in sabotaging vote-by-mail, Democratic voters won’t give up: They’ll show up in person and wait 12 hours to vote in mile-long lines if they have to. We’ve seen them do it. Ever step Trump takes to limit voting will produce more energized and determined voters.
According to the research I’ve read, Republicans have as much to lose, maybe more, than Democrats if mail-in voting is sabotaged. Angry white grandmas and grandpas may not be willing to stand in line for 12 hours, but angry 20-30-40 somethings will.
Every fire Trump sets to burn the country down is a blaze that will blow back on him. I believe that. But in addition to being an optimist I’m also at times a ruthless calculating cynic— anger drives voting.
Trump makes his enemies *angry*.
