We have to talk about #USPSsabotage and a new bill in the House to stop it. /THREAD

Trump is doing everything in his power to destroy the #USPS and make it impossible for voters to vote by mail during a pandemic -- slowing down Social Security checks for seniors, prescriptions for veterans, and hurting small businesses in the process.

He's opposed emergency funding for USPS and the Nov elections contained in the Heroes Act, but denying USPS the funds it needs is only a part of a larger plan. (Yes, you should still demand your senators pass emergency funding for USPS and our elections: indivisible.org/trump%E2%80%99…)

Trump's partner in the project to destroy the Postal Service is Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the GOP megadonor who has given millions of dollars to the Trump campaign and the Republican Party, and has been on the job for just two months.

"DeJoy banned overtime and told carriers to leave mail behind at distribution centers, causing it to pile up day after day. Employees also report that sorting machines that help speed mail processing have been removed from postal facilities."

This is unacceptable – the Postal Service is not a tool of any political party, and it cannot be treated as such. Period.

Yesterday, @OversightDems Chairwoman @RepMaloney introduced a new bill meant to respond to Trump's political games. nydailynews.com/news/politics/…

The Delivering for America Act would prohibit the Postal Service from implementing any changes to the operations or level of service it had in place on 1/1/20, until COVID has ended.

.@RepMaloney is right: "Our Postal Service should not become an instrument of partisan politics, but instead must be protected as a neutral, independent entity that focuses on one thing and one thing only—delivering the mail."

Remember: the House voted months ago to allow both remote voting & virtual hearings. @HouseDemocrats could move this bill right now. Not only would it set up a fight for inclusion in the next COVID package, but it would force @senatemajldr on the record.

Ready? Call 1-833-522-8923 and demand your representative cosponsor @RepMaloney's Delivering for America Act and speak out publicly on the urgent need for the House to move this critical legislation.
