Some of the causes for Indian independence.
1. Lacs of Indian soldiers were returning to India from the theaters of world war. Proved their worth in WW & British were tensed how they gonna act in India now.
2. Naval ranks’ mutiny & the support they got from people & army.

3. INA trials- British portrayed what Azad Hind Fauz did in North east as treason. Indians strongly opposed it. Ultimately, British couldn’t hang INA soldiers. They knew now things were not in their control.
4. Gandhi’s old age- Tilak’s death was used by Gandhi to launch a

massive movement. Gandhi’s death anytime soon after WW could give such opportunity to Congress. It could be a violent movement against British people in India.
5. Mounting pressure from USA & USSR- Both capitalism & communism strongly hates imperialism/colonialism. British

blocked a huge chunk of world market & sea routes by making colonies. USA helped Britain in war for a promise to leave colonies free.
6. Azad Hind Fauz’s assault & will to fight against Britain. Was just a matter of time that Indian Army would have revolted against Britain.

7. Pride of Asia-Japan humiliated British Navy in Indian Ocean & sunk all of its imp vessels.
8. Gandhi traveled whole country repeatedly & made a massive cadre of commoners who wanted independence at all costs.
9. Boiling pot of Hindu-Muslim skirmishes. Could go worst.

10. Earlier Indian princely states were largely free from demand of Independence. The forces of Rajas could be used against revolt in provinces in emergency. But after 1940, even People from princely states demanded independence. Bloody protests were breaking in such states.

11. Effect of 1935 GOI act. Act tried to unite princely states with provinces as some form of responsible govt. but princely states didn’t agree. British saw this as a betrayal & after this they made distance from princely states.

13. Britain lost huge forces & ships in world war. Wasn’t feasible to control such a large country like India with what they had.
14. Lastly, of course the actual woke commoners of India who were ready to do anything for independence. Millions of men & women who came

forward to help the cause. Without them, nothing could be possible. They not only fought for independence but also made efforts after achieving freedom to make India shine in world. The blood of Punjabis & Bengalis during partition is the price we paid for partition. They

also deserve the credit. World thought that we cannot govern ourselves w/o white men. We showed the world our capabilities by producing our great constitution & conducting First election with adult franchise. Not an easy task for such a poor & oppressed nation.
