*THREAD* Are you good enough?
You'll never know unless...
If the measure of 'good enough' is unknown
The question of "are you good enough?" will always be unanswered
You'll never be able to answer that question if it's based on a feeling
You'll know for a FACT if it's measured in facts
No specifics defined for 'good enough'
The problem is by default people base it on a feeling
Treating it like a light switch (ON/OFF)
Do I have the results?
Do I not have the results?
🧠 This is your Locus of Control
Study was done to prove this concept
Students were given incredibly difficult puzzles to solve
Group A) They were told they are "smart"
Group B) They were told they are "hard workers"
The Results...
The 'Smart' students gave up sooner, did a worse job, and enjoyed it less
The 'hard working' students worked longer, did a better job, and enjoyed it more
"Smart" as a Locus of Control (identity) is out of their control
"Working hard" as a Locus of Control is in their control
🔑 When 'good enough' is not in your control the question always remains unanswered
If you have SPECIFIC tasks written down for the day
Completing them makes it a FACT you had a good day
With no measurable task the measure of a good day is left all to a feeling "did it feel like a good day?"
..in which INTERPRETATION becomes an element
Which leaves room for argument, meaning there is no solid answer based in FACTS because it can be debated
In doing the work...
When I had a SPECIFIC deliverable I was not anxious, my clients loved me
When there was no SPECIFIC deliverable it was just a vague general 'marketing' client
It was out of my control, there was always argument and questioning on is this good enough
It was based on a feeling
🔑 When you make the measure of 'good enough' something you have total control over, EACH DAY
Your self esteem is in your hands
When there is no measure your self esteem is always in question
When it is not things you control it is reliant on the external
We can't control results
We can only influence them
The decisions we make each day influence the result
We are in full control of those decisions
We are not in control of the result
We are in control of the PROCESS which influences the result
Funny enough
This is actually the BEST way to get results
When you feel good enough, you feel in control of the outcome, you feel totally deserving of it
It becomes a FACT
We don't get what we deserve
We get what we think we deserve
You will be attracted to it
Because you are it
Worthy of it, capable of it, and have total clarity in it
When it's based on a feeling. You are distant to it
You won't "feel it" until you have it
Which means you feel resistance towards doing it
Because you are not it
If through sheer force & chasing you somehow get it
Trust me...
You will lose it
The Locus of Control was not 'doing the process'
It's "do I have results?"
So when you get the results. Your fuel source is gone
The final point is comparison
Yet again interpretation comes into play, which means the question will never be answered
'Good enough' can't be in comparison
'Good enough' can't be "do I have or not have?"
The measure MUST be...
🔑 Am I doing today the specific's set for today?
Define specifics
You will 'win' and get the feeling each & everyday of 'good enough' , 'completion' & winning
Making the identity - a completer, a doer, finisher, good enough, capable & worthy
No specifics is running with nowhere to run to
Feelings always change, come & go
External reactions always change
What is constant is YOU setting the terms
Scoring daily in close range
Instead of shooting at a ever shifting very distant goal
Self-Esteem 'scores' made daily
Under-promise & over deliver
Set 2 of the most important tasks each day as the measure of a good day
Make it something you KNOW you can do
Something CLEARLY defined
You'll gain momentum and naturally do a little bit extra
Making the identity- "I do & am more than good enough"
Take some time to evaluate
What are your measures of a good day?
Reclaim your self worth
Put it back FULLY into your hands
Good with who you are, where you are, & where you're going
Thank you for reading 🥂
Cheers,
