I'm grateful to @brdemuth for suggesting that this thread on the Arctic Refuge might be useful in teaching. I thought I would add a few more sources in case you want to introduce students to this topic in #envhist and other courses.
The thread (currently pinned to my profile) includes many sources, most importantly a map produced by the Gwich'in Steering Committee (@OurArcticRefuge) as well as links to several videos and articles. But here are a few more I've used before in classes.
The Refuge, a short film from 2016, which includes interviews with Gwich'in leaders @bernademientief, @ArcticDaazhraii, and Sarah James.
"The Sacred Place Where Life Begins," a short film (2019) that includes footage from the 2018 Gwich'in Gathering (@OurArcticRefuge) in Tsiigehtchic (NWT) and interviews with Iñupiat in Alaska and Gwich'in in Arctic Village (AK) and Old Crow (YT).

B/c this is a transnational struggle, involving Indigenous peoples on both sides of the US-Canada border, and a fight to protect a caribou herd that migrates back and forth, I've assigned sections of Berger's Northern Frontier, Northern Homeland, incl. the intro to the 1988 ed. &
the chapter on N. Yukon (incl. testimony given in Old Crow). Also, Subhankar Banerjee's Arctic Voices includes letters and testimony from Gwich'in Jonathon Solomon, Sarah James, & Trimble Gilbert. There are many, many more great sources, of course--but I hope these might help!
