Why people calling communists as fascists? It is insulting. Communists are world champions in witch hunting.

Dmitri Egorov. If you have done a measure theory course then must have heard of Egorov’s theorem. Was president of the Moscow Mathematical Society, director of the Institute for Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University. You know what communists did to him ?

Because of Egorov's stance against the repression of the Russian Orthodox Church, he was dismissed from the Institute in 1929 and publicly rebuked. In 1930 he was arrested and imprisoned as a "religious sectarian", and soon after was expelled from the Moscow Mathematical Society.

Upon imprisonment, Egorov began a hunger strike until he was taken to the prison hospital, and eventually to the house of fellow mathematician Nikolai Chebotaryov where he died.

Heard of Lusin ? Again if have done a course in measure theory you must have read Lusin’s theorem. Was student of Egorov and advisor of Kolmogorov, Aleksandrov, Khinchin, Nina Bari, Urysohn and many others.

Was member of USSR Academy of Sciences, both at the department of Philosophy as well as the department of Mathematics.

In 1936 The special hearing of the Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR endorsed all accusations of Luzin as an "enemy under the mask of a Soviet citizen."

his department in the Steklov Institute was closed and he lost all his official positions.

He was lucky not to be executed. The 1936 decision of the Academy of Sciences was not canceled after Stalin's death. The decision was finally reversed on January 17, 2012.

Nikolai Kondratiev Soviet economist and proponent of the New Economic Policy (NEP) best known for the business cycle theory known as Kondratiev waves. Executed 1938

Kondratiev was removed from the directorship of the Institute of Conjuncture in 1928 and arrested in July 1930, accused of being a member of a "Peasants Labour Party" (a non-existent party invented by the NKVD). Convicted as a "kulak-professor" and sentenced to 8 years in prison,

Kondratiev served his sentence, from February 1932 onwards, at Suzdal, near Moscow.

In September 1938 during Stalin's Great Purge, he was subjected to a second trial, condemned to ten years without the right to correspond with the outside world. However, Kondratiev was executed by firing squad on the same day the sentence was issued.

Primary reason why Kondratiev was executed ? Because in his paper on the Notion of Economic Statics, Dynamics and Fluctuations he showed that capitalism is sustainable.

Since the world is going through a recession it is interesting to go through Kondratiev’s findings.

In Kondratiev’s Paper on the Notion of Economic Statics, Dynamics and Fluctuations, published in 1924, Kondratiev’s conclusions were as follows. 1.Prosperity years were most common in the capitalist economies during upswing periods.

2.Agriculture suffered more and long depressions than did industry during price downswings 3.Major technological innovations were conceived in downswing periods but were developed in upswing periods

4.Gold supply increased, and new markets were opened at the beginning of an upswing 5.The most extensive and devastating wars occurred during periods of an upswing

Kondratiev’s theory was based on empirical observation. He tried to formulate a theory for what he observed. The conclusion of his thesis was capitalism is sustainable. It goes through periodic ups and down but yeah periodic, doesn’t collapse.

Trotsky found it objectionable. I doubt Trotsky had any empirical observation to base his theory or any mathematical formulation to arrive at his conclusions. Communist theories are like that, absolute. Trotsky’s theory declares capitalism is doomed. Kondratiev certainly was !!

Anyways, his protégée Slutsky was much smarter. After Kondratiev was imprisoned and The Conjucture Institute shut Slutsky switched field, to meteorology then to Probability.

This is what Slutsky had to say about leaving Economics for good under soviet regime ... when capitalism collapsed in Russia and I came to describe the contours of a planned socialist economic order, the basis for this from the economic-mathematical point of view disappeared.

studying the economic process under socialism and the transitional epoch demanded a different type of knowledge, methodology, and skills than that which I had armed myself.
