Breonna Taylor's death has become a social media phenomenon. #BreonnaCon kicked off today in Louisville. Some activists say the real issues aren't being taken seriously. wfpl.org/inappropriate-…

#BreonnaCon was organized by national civil rights group @untilfreedom. Co-founder Linda Sarsour says they promised Breonna Taylor’s family to “bring whatever skills, resources and talents that we have to continue to infuse enthusiasm and consistency into the movements here.”

Some local organizers have welcomed the national megaphone & additional resources Until Freedom brings. They‘ve worked with the Louisville Urban League & the Kentucky Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression.

Chanelle Helm with @BLMLouisville says she had early conversations with Until Freedom about how to amplify local activists without just taking over. She felt like those conversations “fell on deaf ears.”

Metro Councilperson-elect @jecoreyarthur says he initially agreed to be part of a #BreonnaCon panel but withdrew after talking with local community leaders he trusts.

“So much response to these events locally has been, ‘we don’t want this, we don’t appreciate it and it’s inappropriate.’ And I would never want to be a part of something that our community at large sees as exploitation or meme-ification.” —@jecoreyarthur

Until Freedom co-founder Tamika Mallory addressed the criticism at one of today’s #BreonnaCon events, saying they have full support from Breonna Taylor’s family, some of whom were in the audience:
