James the Happy Red Train Pal Train Friend
Building progress!
The base was a Bachmann J11. I had to hack off the buffer beam from the running board, which was made of die-cast. Hardest thing I've ever done in modeling
Next thing to sort out was the front pony truck. I reused the one from my donor N class. I shortened it as much as I could. Luckily I had a long screw with a washer end that fit in the chassis block, so it's attached to that!
Next was extending the running board. For this I used wood, and cut it so it just barely clears the pony truck. Used Tamiya putty to fill the seams and sanded it smooth.
The frames were cut from an old gift card!
Primed and painting progress. I opted for blue boiler bands to be different and to match the splashers. I quite like it!
And there you have it folks - James. The most complex mod I've worked on to date, but I think he turned out rather nicely. Quite a looker!
