Liberals today are freaking out because 57 percent of Republicans said the coronavirus death toll has been “acceptable.” But this is obviously an utterly ridiculous poll question that has no right answer because it’s incoherent.
How many cancer deaths are “acceptable”? What about heart disease? Car crashes? On the one hand we’d all say no deaths are acceptable. On the other hand, calling death unacceptable is like scolding gravity while you plummet to the ground.
Are the 57 percent saying they don’t care that people are dying of the virus? No. That wasn’t the question.
What they’re obviously getting at is that they don’t want to further destroy our society or take any more futile and self destructive steps in response to the virus. They interpret “unacceptable” as a request for the government to obliterate the economy even more.
And I would also note that you have no right or standing to get your panties in a bunch over these survey results unless you are willing to come out and tell us exactly how many agonizing deaths in horrific car crashes are “acceptable” to you.
