This study again emphasizes the simultaneous need for face masks and adequate social distancing without masks, the airflow from coughs is capable of traversing at least 1.5 m–3.0 m. A disposable surgical mask greatly reduces this distance to between 0.5 m and 1.5 m.
N95masks have the best effectiveness and completely contain the horizontal spread to between 0.1 m and 0.25 m.
The contamination bubble is highlly reduced by mask wearing independent of filtration efficiency by reduction of cough exit velocity and decay is universal.
So a combination of mask wearing (reducing the contamination bubble) and social distancing (separating oneself from others contamination bubbles) allows nonintersection of these bubbles that can prevent infection transmission.
