NEW: Ahead of the 10th anniversary of Kenya's Constitution, our report details how the government's failure to uphold its obligations has harmed the reproductive health of its people—and how to better protect these rights. #KatibaforSRHR #KatibaAt10 reproductiverights.org/press-room/rep…

Although the Constitution (or "Katiba") has provisions for safeguarding #reprorights—including abortion—they are ignored, sidelined, or rendered ineffective. The result: Women and girls, especially from low-income communities, opt for unsafe abortion. #KatibaforSRHR #KatibaAt10

Recommendations to protect safe abortion access include:

- Training police and prosecutors
- Eliminating legal loopholes that fuel harassment against women and #SRH providers
- Reinstating Standards & Guidelines to reduce unsafe abortion practices

The report is based on in-depth analysis of 29 abortion related-charges in six High Courts around Kenya, and also includes interviews with #SRH medical experts, service providers, and women and girls who have interacted with police officers and courts. #KatibaforSRHR #KatibaAt10

SAY IT AGAIN: We call upon on State actors to operationalize the bill of rights and facilitate access to #SRHR for all Kenyans. Women and girls of Kenya expect and deserve more from @ODPP_KE, @Kenyajudiciary, @IG_NPS, @NAssemblyKE and @MOH_Kenya. #KatibaforSRHR #KatibaAt10
