Absolutely correct. Trump has long ago stopped caring about Black people. His strategy is to win without them, and he’s betting that #BLM support is not nearly as stout as Liberals imagine it is, and that fear of violence will win crucial votes. It worked in 1968.

Last night, an activist told some of us that this can be “1968” for today’s young people. It pained me to have to point out that a) a majority of Americans opposed the anti-war effort, and b) Nixon won.

So I am not quite sure that’s something we want to hope for.

I was there. The reason most engaged in anti-war activism was a fear that they or a family member would be drafted and sent to die in a rice paddy in Southeast Asia. Impending fascism should trigger even bigger fears; but doesn’t. At least not among the poorly educated.

I’ve worried for months that liberals would conflate #BLM protests with “momentum.” We were always one violent outbreak away from flipping public opinion, or at least diluting it. That must be the October surprise—which is why they’ve been practicing to incite unrest.

Remember. Black people are a powerful and vital Democratic constituency, but still just 15% of the population. And their turnout in 2016 was not good. This is why Kamala was so important; to bring the eligible Black voters out in force. But will she? Let’s hope so.
