It is the day when they renewed the lease on the land,water,temple agreements etc
*The one-year lease of various types used to begin on the day Farmers & citizens also used to pay the tax on this day to the ruler

But with the abolishment of Zamindari system in India, Sunia or Anka festival has no relevance. It just a royal festival of Gajapati house.

*From Sunia/Ankaparba the years of Maharaja's coronation is counted.

On this event the Brahmins from Shohala /Batrisha Sasanas around Puri offer a coconut and bless the Maharaja.
* In Paralakhemundi, Gajapati Maharaja visits Shri Mandira and offers Kanaka Bheti
And visit Istadevi Maa Manikeswari Deula for the holy rituals
