Listen to @TVMohandasPai for some incredible numbers, facts and viewpoints about India's higher education system, #NewEducationPolicy, more. I will highlight 7 key points.

1) India has the world's largest higher education system - but quality lacking.

2) Universities have become ivory towers without much industry interaction - research suffering

3) Make children use their hands for life skills! Most can't even assemble a cycle even after 12 years of education.

4) He stresses the importance of multiple languages in education. Mother tongue, state's language, Hindi, Sanskrit & English.

5) If 100 kids go to school, 80 go to class 10. 55 go to class 12. 26 go to college. GER (enrollment) of women in college is higher than men!

6) India's social group inclusion is happening at fantastic pace now.

SC 16.6% of population, 14.6% are in college!!

ST 8% of pop, 5.6% in college.
BC make up 40% of pop, 36% in college.

All social groups in India are now doing great compared to earlier decades.

6) cont'd...

The only social group still lagging is Muslims. 15% of population, but only 5.2% in college. But the good news in that is 7.7% college enrollment increase for Muslims girls & 7.6% for boys since in 2018 compared to 2012. Slowly getting better last decade.

7) India produces 45000 PhDs in a year, but mostly of low quality irrelevant topics.

Only 500 in Computer Science (IT giant!!).

Only 3% of IITs research in the same IIT, after graduating.

India has a long way to go, but the first #NewEducationPolicy in 34 years is promising.
