Dear God, Lyon are intense. It’s as if they’re playing downhill.
If ever a goal had been coming, it was Lyon’s opener. Kumagai is absolutely bossing it, and there appear to be two of Cascarino.
It’s far from Wolfsburg’s only problem, but their centre mids often seem to be very far apart. Lyon going through them like a crossbow.
Kumagai read all the subreddits saying this wasn’t Lyon’s year.
Protect Alex Popp at all costs!
This has been such a good final. Wolfsburg much, much better second half - that early Lyon blitz might just have been too costly.
It’s quite bleak that Gunnarsdottir, one of Wolfsburg’s best players of recent years, applied that final blow against her former team - and also gave (I think) by far her best performance of this knockout stage too. Alas.
That final frame said it all. Lyon had so many passing options when in possession, Wolfsburg’s players too often isolated. No shame in losing to such a supreme side, though that’s no consolation.
I know that the new season has technically already started, but what a football season that just was. Remarkable in so many ways.
