The Massachusetts Senate primary comes to a close today — and it’s been a truly wild ride.

Here’s what you need to know about the face-off between Sen. Ed Markey and Rep. Joe Kennedy III 👇

Markey (74) has been in Congress since 1976 but first won a seat in the Senate in 2013 — the same year Kennedy (39) was elected to the House.

So, it may surprise you which candidate boasts the young progressive fanbase:

See the age breakdown for yourself: Markey, a co-sponsor of the Green New Deal, is up 40 points in the 18-29 demo.

This could have to do with endorsements. Nancy Pelosi, Beto O’Rourke, and the late John Lewis threw their weight behind Kennedy. But this was offset by endorsements for Markey from progressive heavy-hitters like AOC and Elizabeth Warren.

This race has had its fair share of shade-throwing. From Markey flipping the famous Kennedyism “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country…" (2:38)

… to the Kennedy team demanding a public statement from Markey denouncing his rabid Twitter fans — dubbed the Markeyverse — and their attacks on the congressman.

MA politics has been a Kennedy stronghold for decades. Could Ed Markey — or misspelling the city of Worcester — bring the chapter to a close?

We’ll see tonight.
