Virginia Democrats passed a bill in the House that moves federal civil rights cases to state court, and then ELIMINATES qualified immunity defenses for police officers. So if a cop makes a mistake, he gets personally sued.
Why would anyone ever apply to be a cop in VA?
Cops will have to get liability insurance (like homeowners or auto insurance). Localities will have to pay for insurance since cops can’t afford it. Litigation time, discovery, production, depositions, etc. would be undue hindrances on police work performance. Just absurd.
Between the cost burdens on localities (that means your local VA taxes will have to go up) and the time expenditure costs, this is completely unreasonable and undoable.
@NickForVA what’s your take on this bill and the anti-police malice behind it?
