X : Do you think IPO is better than being acquired?
Me : No. It's just different, something I've not experienced or been close to. I'm a curious old soul.
The trick is, that in order to make my research real then I need to maintain experience of where it matters ... hence my occassional involement in advisory boards, in Gov etc. The more diverse the experience, the more useful it is for research.
It's the same reason why I run global working groups or chair conferences or occassionaly judge competitions (Netflix, Open Banking etc) ... exposure to different ideas, to different experiences is essential.
That's one of the weirdist things I've experienced. Meeting a board where not a single member has actually built a company i.e. they've launched business units or developed in an existing player but never from scratch. I cannot emphasise enough how important diversity is.
... it would be like having politicians who all went to the same type of school or university and had never been on the dole or living on a council estate or ... oh wait ... oh no. We really need to talk about sortition for a second chamber.
