The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced new representation standards that movies will be required to meet in order to be eligible for Best Picture. (1/4)
The Academy says its new standards are 'designed to encourage equitable representation on and off screen in order to better reflect the diversity of the movie-going audience.' (2/4)
In order to be eligible, a film must meet inclusion standards by fulfilling two of the following four criteria:
'On screen representation, themes, and narratives'
'Creative leadership and project team'
'Industry access and opportunities'
'Audience development'
(3/4)
Further details about each of those 4 criteria are available at Oscars.org. The new policy, which goes into effect for the 96th Oscars in 2024, comes 5 years after the original #OscarsSoWhite controversy. (4/4)
