I found six wood frogs at the bottom of my window well tonight, all piled on top of each other in a corner. Presumably preparing to overwinter? Temps have been down in the 30s at night here

I have no idea how long they’ve been down there. It’s hot and dry in the middle of the day with direct sun beating down. Doesn’t strike me as the brightest place to winter over but then again I’m not a frog?

Any frog experts have any advice where to release them? Should I just... put them back in the window well? Several seem very scrawny

Okay - there’s a wooded area nearby with some low lying sections that are ponds in the spring. Released them there, it certainly seems to suit them better than the window well. Thanks to all who responded!

I just - like I’m used to pulling the occasional critter out of the window well. But six frogs! Nobody ever expects six frogs! I’d pull one up and there’d be another one curled up beneath it, like some sort of weird froggy nesting doll. I’m so glad they weren’t dead
