106 out of 121 newsroom leadership positions are occupied by Brahmin-Savarnas. At entry-level, mid-senior level jobs also you will find only Brahmin-Savarnas. The so-called alternative, independent media ventures like Scroll, Wire, the Print, Newslaundry, Quint 1/6
News Minute, Caravan etc are also run by Savarnas. Publishing houses like Penguin, Rupa, HarperCollins, Roli, Juggernaut, Aleph have mostly Brahmin-Savarnas as their editors. Facebook India and Twitter India's bias against SC/ST/OBC pages, accounts and their discourse is well 2/6
known. Facebook & Twitter routinely muzzle/censor Bahujan voices. The dominance/over-representation of Brahmin-Savarnas in NGOs, academia, judiciary, bureaucracy is well documented. Now, despite all of this, when a Bahujan says that so-called ODCs (other dominance castes) 3/6
are hogging the spaces of SC/STs, which landscape they are exactly talking about? If the so-called ODCs are to be blamed for snatching away the space that is rightfully meant for SC/STs, then we need to 1. Clearly define/identify the "spaces/platforms" that belong to SC/STs 4/6
2. Quantity how much of space has been unfairly appropriated by the so-called ODCs. If one is not able to answer these questions, then the claims about the so-called ODCs occupying SC/ST spaces can be termed as hearsay that originated/invented in Brahmanical academic 5/6
circles. The picture attached in the first tweet perfectly depicts the Indian social system. If the SC/STs have crumbs of a cookie, the so-called ODCs have one whole cookie, then the question that needs to be asked is "who has the rest of 99 cookies?" 6/6
