After a weekend of self-care and proper adulting, I think I'm ready for another small night of #Kissmatewatches! We'll finish off the two Hercs I wasn't able to get to last time and see how they fare!
#Kissmatewatches Hercules Episode 5: Ares
Ares forms a gang of boys to terrorize the area. Hercules manages to kill the avatar of Ares and tell the boys to go home and think about what they've done.
#Kissmatewatches The best part of this episode is Atalanta played by bodybuilder Cory Everson. She's a blacksmith who wears bikini mail in a village full of women. Her personality is strong and cocky mixed with determination. She's the best side character in this series so far!
#Kissmatewatches Herc is such a sweet himbo. Every time he sees Atalanta, he gets all bashful. He doesn't know whether he's attracted or impressed!
#Kissmatewatches Hercules Episode Six: As Darkness Falls
A centaur steals away a bride from her wedding. Hercules, blinded by a poison, saves her using his wits and fighting skills. It has two myths rolled into it! And the episode sucks for it!
#Kissmatewatches [CW: rape] The myths both involve rape (bride and Herc's wife). The casting choices make both rapists centaurs depicted by a Maori actor! It's super awkward. There's another rapey centaur that gets killed, and the third "good" one who defects is the whitest!
#Kissmatewatches [CW: rape] Then, as the women are safe and the centaur is dead, they all reflect how he wasn't really that bad! He just loved her oh so much that he HAD to kidnap and attempt to rape her!
I saw red. Ares possessed me, or something, because I saw red and violence.
#Kissmatewatches [CW: ableism] Herc is blinded due to poison. He talks of quitting his heroic job as he couldn't possibly continue if this was permanent. His hearing is played up as suddenly his best sense, although it never was before.
The only good thing is it's not focused on.
#Kissmatewatches Honestly, this is the episode worth passing over. The effects don't hold up. The story isn't that good or focused. The side characters are okay at best. Terrible handling of sensitive topics. Anything worth seeing here could be seen in another episode easily.
#Kissmatewatches On that note, I think I'll call it a night. Next time, we'll do much more!
