It’s been a busy weekend across the county with high demand as well as numerous reports of breaches of Covid-19 regulations.

On Sunday we received a number of reports of a gathering on New Park Street in Blackburn & when officers followed it up they found a group of 50+ people.

As a result three people who we believe were the organisers have each been issued with a £10,000 fixed penalty notice.

Supt Andrea Barrow said: “We are still in the middle of a pandemic & the rules are there to stop the spread of the virus and to keep everybody safe. We know how hard it is - we want things to go back to normal too, but the rules are there for a reason.

“Along with our partners we had previously engaged with the organisers of this particular event and agreed that the event would not be able to go ahead in the current climate, so to have to issue these fines is especially disappointing..

“Our approach has always been and will continue to be, to engage with people to explain the rules, and we don’t take enforcement action lightly, however we will issue fines for non-compliance where necessary.

“I’d like to also thank all of those people who have been sticking to the rules, it is such a difficult time for all of us, but if we all do our bit hopefully we will get back to some normality sooner.”

Anybody who isn’t sure what the rules are should visit gov.uk/coronavirus for more information.
