Tesla is growing in a world of Big Tech monopoly. Most ppl won't realize until number of major car makers shrinks to single digit & @Tesla dominates them all. This'll play out in front of our eyes, but many will still be surprised. Read full thread.

From days of Microsoft dominating PC OS & office productivity apps to today's dominance of Google (search), Facebook (social media), Twitter (microblogging), iOS & Android (smartphones), Big Tech is a world of "winner takes all" for many reasons, most to do with software!

Ostensibly, software makes it easier for new players to enter market & for users to adopt new products & services. But software also multiplies first mover, fast mover, right mover advantage manifold, making it virtually impossible for also-rans to offer meaningful competition.

Apple with iOS and iPhone is one of few companies to try Big Tech monopoly in the world of hardware (smartphones) & it may have won, except for a historic twist of destiny that brought Android into the world around the same time. If not, ALL of us would be using only iPhones now!

Imagine the world with only one smartphone platform viz iPhone. HUGE impact not just on users, but also on Apple as a company, the shareholders, the entire smartphone ecosystem, the world itself. Apple's worth would be multiplied many times what it is today.

Back to Tesla: What Apple couldn't do to phones, Tesla will do to cars! With dozens of car companies now, we cannot imagine world with a single car company dominating market. But if competition doesn't shape up quickly (too late already!) Tesla will run Big Tech monopoly on cars!

Tesla already shows #1 sign of monopoly: users don't consider alternatives. Last time you considered alternative to Google/FB/Twitter? @Tesla is #1 choice for most new car buyers (not just EVs). Soon buyers won't consider alternative car brands at all!

Tesla is fast implementing #2 sign of Big Tech monopoly: multiple hooks (UI, killer features not offered by competition, apps, after-sale lifetime updates and upgrades) that keep the users in their ecosystem. @Tesla is not just a car. It's a full-fledged tech platform.

With #BatteryDay & #FSD release, @Tesla will reveal #3 sign of Big Tech monopoly: certain tech advancements so HUGE (eg: Google's AI-powered search), the competition can never hope to catch up and will simply give up. Google gave up on social media. Nokia on smartphone platform.

#4 sign of Tech monopoly: long tail revenue source making money without extra effort. Eg: Apple's App Store. Future @Tesla revenue streams will EXPLODE: purchase-able OTA upgrades, insurance, ridesharing service, app store, energy arbitration, stuff we can't even imagine now!

#5 sign of Tech monopoly: use primary hegemony to succeed in second major business. Eg: AWS of Amazon. @Tesla energy might grow bigger than car business. City-wide network of solar installs harnessed through central software = powerplant. Repeat in EVERY city around the world!

There are many more signs of Big Tech monopoly that @Tesla displays. But let's skip to last one: fundamentally change the world. Tesla has already set in motion at least 10 things which will change world in ways we can't even imagine today. It will happen faster than we expect!
