On December 15th I left to drive from Los Angeles to near Philadelphia. Got back yesterday, after a total of 6,392 miles in the Model S Plaid with #FSDBeta.

Drove more than 99% autonomously, and I've some not great @Tesla Autopilot + FSD thoughts and experiences to share... 🧵
Let me start off by saying I recorded most of the trip in 4k@60fps from a GoPro inside of the car, and so I _should_ have footage of many of the things I’m complaining about here. Might be hard to find it though, amongst all the footage.
The second is that even with the issues I’m raising, it did reduce the personal cost of driving so many miles. It was a lifesaver. That said, it caused stress in other ways that wasn’t present years ago, some of which I think are legitimate safety concerns for me and others.

Congrats to #FSD team for the great progress!
Our Supervision system shares the camera-centric approach, but differs in some key elements.
1) Crowd-based HD map vs. SD map
2) Math-based vs. simulation-based driving policy
3) Multiple redundant systems vs. a single one

Humans drive better when they are familiar with the road ahead. Furthermore, it is better to solve problems offline than to solve them online. Offline has more compute, knowledge of the future, optimal weather conditions, and the ability to validate quality.
2/n
We can plan way in advance for curves ahead, or for occluded areas in an intersection. We could use rear camera when there's a low-sun in front, and still know the lanes ahead. But, REM maps are much more than that.

Here’s how Elon Musk is the biggest charlatan of 21st century.
$tsla $tslaq

Time for a thread🧵 🍿
1. Isn’t the founder of #Tesla, #PayPal or #Neuralink but tries to revise history to call himself one.
2. Always tries to push vaporware to generate hype (#FSD, #Robotaxi, #Semi, #Cybertruck, #Roadster, #Robot, etc)

(1/12) In light of the #FX / #Hulu documentary “Elon Musk’s Crash Course” I thought I’d share a short tidbit about my time on #Tesla #Autopilot team.

I originally joined under a narrative that #FSD was saving peoples lives on a daily basis. Every day I would preach to all my
2/ friends and family about Elon and all the great work Tesla was doing!

I eventually I bought my own Tesla so I could experience the “life saving technology” I was helping to train…. Or so I believed.

Once I got my hands on FSD I realized everything I helped build was on a
3/ web of lies with the hope members of the Autopilot team would silently pick up the slack before the public or others realized how bad it was.

Here’s a couple examples of safety concerns out of dozens I could choose:

@elonmusk @Tesla Tired of sending my feedback to the Tesla FSD Beta e-mail address and sending autopilot videos only for no reply and to see no change in how car handles things. Will just post them here and perhaps someone might see it. #fsdbeta #fsd
#FSDbeta is not beta, or even alpha, and is barely an engineering prototype if we go by standards of hi-tech companies I've worked with/for. First of all, it suffers from a severe regression problem when compared to production software.
But first, a word about where I drive my car. I live in the midwest, a rural area with many state highways that have 55 mph speed limits, T-intersections, and many small villages where speed limits will rapidly change between them. It's clear @Tesla doesn't invest much time here.

Tesla Earning Call Day!
$TSLA $TSLAQ Image
How late does $TSLA Q4 2021 Earnings Call get started?
Don't expect fireworks from a DOJ NEUTERED Musk. There's a reason Musk didn't post a video of him driving the latest Cybertruck prototype--that reason is NIKOLA/Trevor Milton federal indictment.
I mean, Musk'll still be indicted, he's just not adding to the list.

Thread on the #Tesla Model 2 Fraud (aka "Fluffy Pillow" h/t @passthebeano)
It's being asked as an earnings call question again. It's simple: Musk LIED. The "Fluffy Pillow" is NOT going to happen for $25k. Musk just hiked the Model 3 SR+ (50 kWh) price to $42k... $TSLA $TSLAQ 1/6
...and that's *with* corner cutting with inferior Chinese LFP cells, killing lumbar adjustments, cheap paint, ersatz chips, not doing brake testing, etc.
Maybe #Tesla can cut $3k more with a tiny battery, but that'd mean a <150 mi. range. Making it a subcompact... 2/6
...might shave only a few hundred in raw material costs. Tesla's cut to the bone. There's nothing left to squeeze.
Elon Musk's strategy behind the #Tesla "Fluffy Pillow" was to use the car as a loss leader. He banked on FSD uptake pushing it into positive margin territory. 3/6

$TSLA $TSLAQ likes to boast quarterly about how incredibly safe #Autopilot is in their Vehicle Safety Report. The numbers they claim are impressive, but let's look past the grand marketing claims typical of Elon Musk and dig into the numbers. 🧵
First of all, let me just state upfront that I have no doubt that driver assistance features like the dangerously misnamed "Autopilot" do improve safety. Most of those safety features are now widespread, e.g. on your average Toyota Corolla. (BTW, $TM Toyota marketing sucks)
Now where do $TSLA's numbers come from? Their own numbers are self reported and cannot be independently verified. The NHTSA number they quote, "an automobile crash every 484,000 miles", of comes from Overview of Motor Vehicle Crashes (page 3): crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api/Public/Pub…

Omar Qazi's Gamed #Tesla "Full Self Driving" Videos 🧵
Qazi, one of $TSLA's top pumpers, makes "#FSD" videos that Musk fanboys market as progress. I will list all the gimmicks Qazi employs in his videos. Here is Qazi's latest video 👇
$TSLAQ 1/9
- Qazi often MANUALLY INTERVENES by changing his vehicle's speed using the steering wheel's scroll wheel, e.g. in dangerous conditions
- The videos have all been done in LOW VEHICLE/FOOT TRAFFIC conditions, e.g. not rush hour
#Tesla $TSLA $TSLAQ 2/9
- Qazi's night driving demos are cherry-picked for EXTREMELY LATE HOURS (e.g. most recent one 👇 was done pre-radar removal at **2:41 AM**)
- His routes are ALMOST ALWAYS ON CLEARLY MARKED ROADS for night driving

With @Tesla CJ Moore, Director of Autopilot saying "Elon’s tweet does not match engineering reality". Here's Elon's tweets/statement about #FSD $TSLA

Dec 2015: "We're going to end up with complete autonomy, and I think we will have complete autonomy in approximately two years."
January 2016: "In ~2 years, summon should work anywhere connected by land & not blocked by borders, eg you're in LA and the car is in NY"

June 2016: "I really consider autonomous driving a solved problem, I think we are less than two years away from complete autonomy, safer than humans, but regulations should take at least another year"

Versie nummer 6.971.436 of zo.

Tegen betonnen palen op een kaarsrechte weg jezelf te barsten rijden.

In je 'zelfrijdende' Tesla. Die 'alles' ziet.
En 'zelf remt' in noodsituaties #EchtHeuswaar

1/ Why #Tesla will be much more successful than #Apple, and much harder to compete against.

I am still admiring #SteveJobs and the great #Apple success, while I think #Telsa will have much greater success than Apple. This will have huge implications to $TSLA and competitors.
2/ It is easier to understand this from #Apple’s own loss of opportunities or strategic mistakes (Only IMO) over the last 10+ years:
. Chose to make iPhone exclusive only for ATT, leading Verizon and other caries no choice but to power the rise of #Android.
3/ Delayed the large screen phone for years, leading to the rise of Samsung/competitors.
. Chose to keep iPhone at high price (& profit), leading to the rise of Chinese phone makers like Huawei, Xiao Mi etc. They are really good now, many of my friends in China switched to Huawei

Tesla is growing in a world of Big Tech monopoly. Most ppl won't realize until number of major car makers shrinks to single digit & @Tesla dominates them all. This'll play out in front of our eyes, but many will still be surprised. Read full thread.
CC: @TeslaDaily @HyperChangeTV
From days of Microsoft dominating PC OS & office productivity apps to today's dominance of Google (search), Facebook (social media), Twitter (microblogging), iOS & Android (smartphones), Big Tech is a world of "winner takes all" for many reasons, most to do with software!
Ostensibly, software makes it easier for new players to enter market & for users to adopt new products & services. But software also multiplies first mover, fast mover, right mover advantage manifold, making it virtually impossible for also-rans to offer meaningful competition.
