Commission Presents Model County Law on Access to Information to Busia County Assembly

The Commission Vice Chairperson @WashingtonSati today led a team from the Commission during a visit to @040County

@WashingtonSati paid a courtesy call on the Director of Administration, Mr. Robert Muganda and Director in Charge of Service Delivery, Mr. Shadrack Maloba where he presented the Model County Law on Access to Information to the County Executive.

The team also had a meeting with the Deputy County Commissioner Busia Sub- County, Mr. Joseph Onyango where they discussed the modalities of partnership between the Commission and the National Government Administration (NGA)

The partnership will see the Commission leverage on the platforms of the NGA to undertaking public awareness and education on its mandate to both the NGA officers and the public in @040County

Commissioner @WashingtonSati accompanied by the Speaker of the Busia County Assembly Hon. Bernard Wamalwa later made a presentation on the Model Law on Access to Information for County Governments to the county assembly.

On his part, Hon Wamalwa emphasised on the need for the Commission to partner with the CA in developing the ATI legislation, capacity building on setting up effective complaints handling infrastructure and partnership in undertaking public awareness and education at the wards.

The Members of the County Assembly also requested the Commission to decentralize its services to @040County. @WashingtonSati was accompanied by the Director in-Charge of Legal and Investigations Mr. Vicent Chahale and the Commission’s LO for Kisumu Regional Office @flilako

Section 96 of the county Governments Act provides that “subject to national legislation governing access to information, a county government shall enact legislation to ensure access to information in order to give further effect to Article 35 of the Constitution."
