A thread on my comments at today’s COVID-19 update. We have all seen the numbers of new cases of #COVID19 increasing in our community, particularly among younger people. /1

While analysis is still being carried out the evidence points to social gatherings – people getting together with friends and extended family, particularly indoors. People are breaking their social circle of ten people and they're becoming infected with #COVID19. /2

This puts the work we have done fighting the spread of the virus over the last six months at risk. So that's the behaviour we need to change. /3

.@epdevilla has made it clear that we need to do three things:
✔️ Reduce the social gatherings limits
✔️ Enhance enforcement on existing restrictions
✔️ Expand the mandatory mask requirements

Over the coming days, we will be moving to act on all three of these areas. /4

We are taking these actions now so we, hopefully, won't need to take more drastic actions in the near future like another lockdown. I know that people have #COVID19 fatigue. People, particularly young people, want to have fun and live their lives. I get that. /5

But the fight is not over. #COVID19 is still here. We know how to fight it. But we need the cooperation of all residents to make it happen. We've often said from the beginning that we're all in this together. Let's keep proving that's true. /6

I want to thank the residents who are doing the right thing and following public health guidelines. We need to shift our behaviours and make real change moving forward. We need to do this to avoid another surge which would lead to further lockdowns. That would not be good. /End
