Thu plan: 0900 AusCERT 2020 cyber conference on the cyber line conference.auscert.org.au/program/; write for @zdnetaustralia along the way, ideally; 1730 train to Sydney; prepare to be hissed at by @gathgwyn for the next four days.

Thu plan, remainder: 1730 train to Sydney; poke at some writing en route; prepare to be hissed at by @gathgwyn for the next four days.

@gathgwyn He is not to be trusted.

It’s on the way!

We have just been informed that this #purpletrain will be held here at Emu Plains due to a person “injured by a train” at Kingwood. I know this code. This may take some time.

I see that an outbound #purpletrain has already been held at Kingswood (correct spelling this time) for half an hour, and an inbound #blueandyellowtrain for 15 minutes.

Yep, the guard just said we could easily be waiting an hour or more.

There is a pub just over there but I want to stay with the train for now.

As I had expected, unfortunately “injured by a train” has now been revised to “fatality” so the cops have to do the full procedure. They guard says it will definitely be at least an hour before trains start moving, make other travel plans, etc.

The #purpletrain is being cleared into Penrith to terminate there. Buses are being organised from Penrith to St Marys, the next station where trains can turn around, but no ETA on those yet. There are also local bus routes I might explore.

Many thanks to the guard on run W570 for keeping us informed, @TrainLinkWest.

Bussin’ my 775 moves to St Marys.

I’ve made it to St Marys just in time for an actual train. For some reason the algorithm reckons I should change at Lidcombe for Ashfield, rather than Strathfield, so I am going to ignore that bit.

Mind you it’s been five minutes away for more than five minutes now. I am OK with this. It’ll be the next train to Sydney no matter when it starts.

We have a #blueandyellowtrain but we’re are not being allowed to board yet for some reason.

We have been put on another #blueandyellowtrain on platform 4 and we’re mobile!

Ah, they’re clearing all the trains out of St Marys in quick succession.

Meanwhile back at the tweetface…

Parramatta.

Passengers on the top deck of this car: 15.

Number wearing masks: 3.

This continues to match my previous experiences of mask-wearing on Sydney public transport as 20% or less.

Another #blueandyellowtrain, briefly.

Ashfield, finally.
