My cyber tweets today from what is styled AUSCERT2020 will be in this cyber thread. Cyber follow or cyber mute the cyber hashtag #AusCERT2020 as you cyber prefer.

Lol it is a debacle. “Bottom right hand corner for the Plenary (next to Stream 4),” we are being told, but there is nothing labelled either of those things. #AusCERT2020

“You can click and drag the floor plan to move down to the right.” Lol FFS. #AusCERT2020

OK, OK, I am there. Also what is this Tinder stuff? #AusCERT2020

The keynotes are on now. I probably won’t tweet much here because I’m prepping for some other things later this morning. #AusCERT2020

I say, @otter_ai is doing a reasonable job of transcribing Kana Shinoda’s Japanese-accented English. I’m impressed. #AusCERT2020

Cyberworms! #AusCERT2020

Next for me, some Chinese cyber espionage, and then what’s been happening with Victoria’s Information Commissioner (OVIC). #AusCERT2020

Lol. Bill started with a welcome in Mandarin. @otter_ai tried valiantly to understand. #AusCERT2020

“Every one of you is being hacked as we go through this presentation,” says Bill Hagestad. #AusCERT2020

Stated Chinese targets for IP theft. #AusCERT2020

On another Chinese list of companies etc being targeted, “If this information is new to you then you should look in a mirror and fire yourself.” Gosh. #AusCERT2020

This is Hagestad’s final slide. #AusCERT2020

Wow Hagestad still runs into US government officials who haven’t heard of One Belt One Road, which has been a thing for five years now. Good one. #AusCERT2020

Into the OVIC session now... #AusCERT2020

The personalities that OVIC was looking for. #AusCERT2020

OVIC has to cover about 3000 Victorian government departments and agencies and organisations. So far this is all a backgrounder on the OVIC’s rollout since the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. Somewhat wonky and outreach strategy so far. #AusCERT2020

OK, now they’re explaining how they’re trying to break out of a compliance mentality. Carrot versus Stick. #AusCERT2020

Apparently they want to use their powers for good not evil. #AusCERT2020

When trying to understand why an organisation does things the way it does, ask “Why?” five times. Why do you do that? OK, so why do you do that? Etc. #AusCERT2020

According to @jamver it’s a pants-off conference this year. #AusCERT2020

This one is on my list for tomorrow. #AusCERT2020

My cyber tweets from AUSCERT2020 today will continue in this cyber thread. Cyber follow or cyber mute the cyber hashtag #AusCERT2020 as you cyber prefer.

Program at conference.auscert.org.au/program/ or in PDF form at conference.auscert.org.au/wp-content/upl…

I don’t know how many tweets there will be from me today, though, because I’m experiencing a collision of priorities. And I have to prep for the Speed Debate somewhen. #AusCERT2020

Here we go. #AusCERT2020

Today’s first keynote is Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant. These figures on child sexual abuse, image-based abuse, bullying etc are published regularly, but they continue to be challenging to absorb every time I hear them. #AusCERT2020

Here are the Safety by Design (SbD) resources just mentioned. esafety.gov.au/about-us/safet… #AusCERT2020

She just said that playing Tetris is one of the techniques they use to prevent abuse images locking into long-term memory. Fascinating stuff. #AusCERT2020

A very good point indeed. #AusCERT2020

Sigh. #AusCERT2020

I didn’t think I’d get to watch much of the conference today. Anyway now I’m starting to prepare for the Speed Debate which is at 1425 AEST. #AusCERT2020

OK so Brian Hay has gone mad during the Speed Debate. #AusCERT2020

The Speed Debate is over, and I should‘ve been one of the winners except that @adambspencer disqualified me for inappropriate mental imagery. #AusCERT2020

A great conference as always, @AusCERT. Thank you linespeople. Thank you ballfolk. #AusCERT2020
