Fourteen more Iowans have died from COVID-19, pushing total to 1,248 since first death on March 24.
Deaths reported in Black Hawk, Clinton, Dubuque (2), Lee, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, O'Brien, Polk (2), Pottawattamie, and Winnebago Counties.

This infectious disease is killing Iowans in all regions of Iowa and all across our state.
I cannot believe our Governor and the leaders in the Iowa Legislature - Whitver, Schneider, Grassley, Windschitl - aren't doing anything to try to stop it.
If they are, what is it?
On a day when 14 more Iowans have died from COVID-19, hospitalizations for it were down to 271, but patients in intensive care units with COVID-19 were up to 85.
There were 34 new admissions to Iowa hospitals in the last 24-hour reporting period.
There were 918 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iowa, pushing the total to 76,918.
Subtracting deaths (1,248) and "recoveries" (55,767), there are now 19,953 active cases - the third highest number yet - one out of every 158 Iowans!
The 918 new cases were confirmed on 6,709 newly reported tests (up from 712,919 to 719,628) - that's a rate of tests showing COVID-19 of 13.7%.
The state is scheduled to update the number of kids who have tested positive at 11 am at the "accessibility" link at state's website.
The data I am presenting is a comparison of a spreadsheet downloaded from the state's website, coronavirus.iowa.gov, at 10 am today (Sept. 17) with the spreadsheet downloaded yesterday (Sept. 16) from that site at 10 am.

The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 484 new cases for total of 29,001.
They had 7 more deaths reported, so total is 411.
On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.

No new cases: Adams, Appanoose, Grundy, Hamilton, Hancock, Harrison, Howard, Ida, Jefferson (adjusted down one), Montgomery, Taylor, Van Buren, Wayne, Worth.
Best day in the 77: Grundy up 0 on 25 tests.
Least testing: Page and Van Buren at 6 tests.
Now for the 22 counties where Gov. Reynolds repeatedly loosened Iowa's limited restrictions without an alternative safety plan starting in mid-May:
No new cases: Des Moines County (best day with 0 on 55 tests).

Here's the update from the state on kids:
There are now 5,929 kids under age 18 in Iowa who have tested positive for coronavirus.
That's up 149 since yesterday.
That's up 1,391 since Sept. 1 (when it was 4,538).
Averaging over 85 kids per day testing positive!
