Pakistan Customs Port Control Unit at Karachi has performed in an unprecedented joint international counter narcotics operation by sharing information on a suspicious container in transit trade. 1/7

The container was shipped from UAE and was destined for Afghanistan via Pakistan containing six 06M.Tons of Iodine also used as a precursor for methamphetamine 2/7

Methamphetamine is a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system and is an international and US Drug Enforcement Agency controlled list item 3/7

A historic seizure was made as Pakistan Customs shared the information about the consignment with Afghan Customs under UNODC Container Control Programme to intercept the container as Pakistan couldn’t detain the same being under international transit 4/7

The significance and implications of this achievement can be made from the observations of the In'tl Narcotics Board which has estimated that the seized Iodine had the potential to produce 4.5 metric Tons of Methamphetamine having market value of 91.670 Billion Pak Rupees 5/7

Moreover, it has also successfully averted the illicit flow of 546 million US dollars as ultimate funding to terrorist organizations 6/7

The international agencies have appreciated the effective planning, and professional handling of Pakistan Customs and role of Government of Pakistan in execution of the case in liaison with other International Law Enforcement Agencies 7/7
