• Two major conflicts facing Lebanon’s political system according to @PaulaYacoubian:

1- Dominance of powerful sectarian families that serve as cartels and play a critical role in mobilizing votes for both local and parliamentary elections. @isalamey

2- Foreign power patronage of different sects, whereby Lebanese politicians and their international allies take advantage to control & extend their power. (#Macron’s visit to Lebanon where he met with the various political representatives).

• Solution:
1- First way through parliamentary elections, where voters vote with the knowledge that a new cabinet, based on new parliamentary majorities under the “popular will”, will be formed.

2- Second, working on a new election law also affects the political discourse. Accordingly, there should be a law that fosters the importance of “national identity” rather than a sectarian one.
