Let's go π
Design separates winners and losers:
β Nike
β Tesla
β Apple
Grasping the basics will enrich your life and help you win.
Lesson 1: Align Everything
Nothing should be arbitrary. Every element should have a visual connection with another.
This drives unity within the design.
Until you're skilled, you should left align EVERYTHING. No center aligning unless you're making a wedding invitation.
Lesson 2: Assert A Clear Hierarchy
Design requires hard choices.
Remember, good design is about clear communication. And clear communication comes from clear thinking.
Figure out whatβs most important and whatβs supporting information. Have your design reflect that.
Lesson 3: Respect the Elements of Design
The big amateur mistake?
Moving EVERY design lever. Making things bold. Enlarging them. Coloring them. Underlining them.
The result is a chaotic mess.
There are two keys to design:
1. Understand the levers
2. Limit how many you use
Lesson 4: Group Things
Put related things into groups.
Use white space to ensure the grouping is really obvious.
If things are unrelated, move them apart!
Lesson 5: Manage Your White Space
White space is the key ingredient of every strong design.
Use it to emphasize important things. To group related things. And to distinguish unrelated things.
White Space : Your Design :: Oxygen : Air
