NOVENA PRAYER TO ST MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL FOR THE CHURCH AND FOR SOULS

V. O God, come to our aid.
R. Lord, help us and save us.
(Say the “Glory Be”.)

O glorious St Michael, High Prince of the celestial militias,

2. the glory of being the first to defend the Lord’s honour was reserved for you. And carrying the divine standard, you proclaimed with the strength of the divine power: “Who is like God!” Rapidly like a lightning bolt, you laid low the rebel angels and cast them into the abyss.

3. Obtain for us a spark of your ardent zeal and your steadfast fidelity so that we with your aid and strong in the name of God may also know how to combat His and our enemies and obtain a glorious victory over them.

3. O glorious Archangel St Michael, the Lord designated you to protect His Church and to constantly look after it. Please hear our prayers in favour of it.

Look how, O Highest Archangel, the Dragon, whom you already defeated and who knows he cannot win, tries at all cost to

4. combat and persecute her.

Sometimes he spreads the spirit of arrogance among her children.

At other times he tempts with false doctrines to deceive the weak and incautious; at others, he directs all sorts of impious fury at her visible head on earth. Ah! help her.

5. Reunite in one flock her lost sheep; make them obedient to the voice of the Shepherd Jesus Christ and, casting once again the Dragon into the infernal abyss, guarantee that the holy Church, glorious and triumphant, be exalted more and more, and that the number of Christians,

6. rich in the love of God and sanctity, be always increased.

O glorious St Michael, our beloved Protector, please accept the praise that our affection attributes to you. You have the blessing of enjoying the Lord

Be compassionate with us who, still in exile and surrounded by thousands of spiritual dangers, continue so needy;help us in the struggles of this life and principally in that terrible moment when we must appear

8. before the Supreme Judge! Ah! may your patronage be effective then, O Celestial Prince so that, saved from the flames of purgatory, we may be able to enjoy with you forever the ineffable blessing of seeing God and eternally possessing Him in heaven. Amen.

Let us pray:
O greatest and humblest of the blessed spirits, Archangel St Michael, your standard disperses the devil and his allies. Pray for us! Obtain for us the love of God, self-contempt and hatred of sin!

10. Practising these virtues in union with the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will obtain the sweet hope of entering the celestial Homeland.

At the moment of that terrible passage, be by our side, St Michael Archangel, the one who presents souls to God.
