It’s small in the scale of things, but I hope BC doesn’t hold an early election: theglobeandmail.com/canada/british…
BC is fine-ish right now. We’ve got enough going on with the pandemic numbers getting worse & school starting. Last round was decided by tiny margins.
Just... let it ride.
I am trying very hard to enjoy the last few minutes of deluded faith that we're not having an entirely unnecessary election for no fucking reason in the middle of a pandemic that's sharply getting worse while attempting to manage back-to-school.
I'll miss you, blanket fort

Alright, BC kin. We're doing this #bcelxn20 complete and utter bullshit.
As irate as I am, please remember that our pretty little collation government has done a decent job at social & economic supports during a pandemic. Please keep us NDP/Green.
Voting in #bcelxn20 is dead simple: elections.bc.ca/voting/what-yo…
1. You can request a vote-by-mail package from now until 4pm election day, return by 8pm election day.
2. We'll have 6 days advanced polling.
3. You can vote at ANY polling location.
4. You can register to vote day-of.
I can't believe I'm agreeing with Wilkinson about literally anything, but WHY. ffs, we have better shit to do than have Hogan attempt to become the first-ever 2-term BC NDP premier.
No one wants this. NO ONE.
Canadians are vindictive voters under the best circumstances.
Requesting a mail-in ballot for #BCelxn20:
@ElectionsBC needs to wait until the writs of election are issued to update election day from 2021 to 2020, which will probably be this afternoon.
Check with them tomorrow for mail-in processes.
NEITHER. I WANT NEITHER.
Dammit. PresentMika is fucking pissed at Hogan being a selfish, spoiled asshole who isn't reading the damn room, but FutureMika will have great big sads if we lose our NDP-driven social supports during a long-term emergency.
This is one of those times being a dual US/Canadian citizen freaking sucks.
BC's margins were so close last time we literally didn't know what our new government was for months. (Sounds great during a pandemic!) It's entirely feasible BC will still be in limbo on US election day
Even better?
By law, mail-in ballots cannot be counted until 13 days post-election.
So. Yeah. Given we're IN A PANDEMIC THAT'S GETTING WORSE and we're already having an uptick in people pestering about mail-in how-to, I'm guessing preliminary counts will be utterly useless.
Yay
I requested my mail-in ballot for #BCelxn2020: eregister.electionsbc.gov.bc.ca/ovr/welcome.as…
Full pandemic-friendly election plans:
I requested my #BCelxn2020 ballot the day the election was announced, received it last week, mailed it back this week.
Candidate registration closed today, so I had a fully write-in ballot. In theory, I should’ve waited to find out who was running. In practice, Nope.
My riding’s #BCelxn2020 incumbent is @BowinnMa.
I genuinely don’t care who else is running. She’s better.
Her pandemic communications are stellar. At the same time, she secured specialized health services (First Nations, teen, mental health), & expanded transit & childcare.
That my MLA has first-hand experience with toxic bullshit like doxing, trolls, pandemic racism, & sexism makes me sad but also trust her to make choices that support our vulnerable populations.
That she cheerfully bikes PPE giveaways up Lonsdale makes me envy her lung capacity.
To my NVan kin:
We’ve got some excellent candidates for #BCelxn2020.
If you’re Lower Lonsdale, please help me keep NDP Bowinn Ma.
If you’re Seymour, check out Green Harrison Johnston.
