You know the situation is changing when there's a Government briefing with Liz Canavan...

Canavan: The greatest impact on the disease is what we do individually and collectively...

Canavan says the National Framework/Living with Covid plan has some "really hard choices".

"We have to eliminate the situations where the virus will seek out new hosts."

The purpose of this briefing appears to be to try to drive home the reasoning behind the Living with Covid plan and the Levels strategy while admitting it's going to be very difficult for so many people.

"As a nation we are weary... There is no one who is not tired of it all," says Liz Canavan.

She points out the people who have lost loved ones, who have lost work or their business and who have suffered throughout the last six months.

"There will be a national wellbeing campaign," says Canavan.

But she says the best work will be done in the community through solidarity.

Liz Canavan says the big concern nationally are the rising levels of infection through Community Transmission.

"If the virus progresses unchanged, we would likely see 500-1000 cases per DAY in a month's time. 50-60% of which would be in Dublin.

"The disease in Dublin is at an extremely critical juncture."

Canavan - Dublin will be at Level 3 for three weeks, at which point there will be a re-evaluation based on the latest information.

"The situation nationally is also a cause for concern... The counties of Louth, Waterford, Offaly, Leitrim, Donegal and Limerick are significant causes for concern."

"There are worrying trends in all countries nationally."

Canavan says we want to stay at Level 2 nationally or improve to Level 1 and that requires collective action from the public.

"Concentrate on your core circle in the coming weeks..." Limiting the contacts is the key.

"A short sharp action can get Dublin back to Level 3," says Canavan. Presumably meaning Level 2... or normal Level 3?
