Iowa is reporting another death from coronavirus, pushing total to 1,266 since first death on March 24.

The death was reported in Marion County, its fifth since its first death from coronavirus reported September 1.

Hospitalizations in Iowa for coronavirus were up to 271, including 74 in intensive care units and 35 patients using ventilators.

There were 34 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for COVID-19 in the last 24-hour reporting period.

Between 10 am Sept. 20 and 10 am Sept. 21, Iowa is reporting 624 new positive tests for coronavirus, pushing the total to 80,633.

Subtracting deaths (1,266) and "recoveries" (57,832), there are now 21,535 active cases - the highest number yet, one out of every 147 Iowans!

The 624 new cases were confirmed on 3,382 reported tests (up from 737,979 to 741,361), for a rate showing COVID-19 of 18.5%.

The number of Iowa kids under age 18 who have tested positive stands at 6,340, up 1,802 since Sept. 1 and up 786 in the last week (Sept. 13-20).

The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 299 new cases for total of 30,686.

They had one more death reported for total of 416.

On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.

Of the 77 counties, Chickasaw (pop. 12,000) had the most new cases reported today (14) and Sioux (pop. 35,000) was second with 13.

This is the 6th day in a row that Sioux has had more new cases than either Story (pop. 97,000) or Johnson (pop. 147,000).

Best day in the state: Clarke was up 0 on 16 tests (tied with Bremer County).

Least testing: Mills (testing adjusted down one).
