Today, September 22, is #NationalVoterRegistrationDay!! Here’s an interactive chart I put together with @GraphicsInsider with the voter registration deadlines in every state and everything you need to know about registering to vote in a pandemic. Thread 🧵 businessinsider.com/how-to-registe…

In every state + DC except North Dakota, you must be properly registered in your county to vote. You have to be 18 years old and a US citizen to be eligible to vote anywhere, and will need to provide a driver’s license/state ID card number or the last 4 digits of your SSN 2/

Some states also have specific rules that require you you to be a resident of your county for a specific number of days, and many states prohibit citizens on probation or parole for a felony from voting, so be sure to check w/ your state's rules, esp if you recently moved 3/

Most but not all states now have online registration! Keep in mind, however, that you may not be able to use your state’s voter registration portal if you don’t have a drivers license or state ID card, so check that well ahead of time and get your paper form in by the deadline 4/

If you’re in Arkansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, or Wyoming, you have to register either in-person or by mail with a paper form. Be sure to get your form in by the deadline — if your form is late, you can’t register at all 5/

21 states + DC now have some form of same-day in-person voter registration, where you can register in-person on Election Day or during early voting if you missed the online/mail voter registration deadline in your state 6/ ncsl.org/research/elect…

Keep in mind that every state requires you to bring one or more forms of ID to register to vote on Election Day, and in some places, you can only do same-day registration at your county elections office and not at your polling place. Be sure to figure that out ahead of time! 7/

And in 34 states (+ first-time voters at a new precinct in PA), it’s not enough to simply be registered — you also need to bring some form of either photo or non-photo ID to the polls. Here’s a map showing the rules in every state 8/ businessinsider.com/voter-identifi…

Today is also a great day to verify your voter registration and make sure it’s still active — every election, there are unfortunately some people who show up to the polls only to find they’re not properly registered, esp if they recently moved or haven't voted in a while 9/

If you’re already registered, awesome, you get a gold star! Today’s also a wonderful day to check with your friends and family and make sure they are registered, their registration is active, and they have a plan to vote/have requested their ballot🗳️ businessinsider.com/deadlines-for-…
