Hi there. Again. [Thread]
Obviously, we are disappointed by the rush to hold SCOTUS hearings in the middle of such a highly contentious election. We respect the constitutional right of a Pres. to nominate and Senate to confirm, there is no constitutional requirement on timing.

By pushing nomination and confirmation forward, the President and Senate risk doing significant and lasting institutional harm. One of MWEG's leaders, @jenwalkerthomas wrote in greater depth about that risk in this op-ed: sltrib.com/opinion/commen… #utpol

@SenatorRomney's statement has been of great interest to our thousands of members, their vast social networks, and the public. While we agree that his dismissal of an argument centered around "fairness" is correct, there are *legitimate* reasons to slow the nomination process.

In fact, former Senate Judiciary Committee member @JeffFlake said exactly this just yesterday when he stated that: "preserving the institution of the Senate should be paramount to any political gain"

We encourage @SenatorRomney and his colleagues to consider and weigh the merits of these reasonable and bipartisan arguments. There is *no* precedent for allowing a President to have such extraordinary influence over the outcome of an election that HE threatens to contest.

We care deeply about the rule of law and the norms that hold our institutions together. On that note, perhaps one at risk of facing judgment ought not to choose the judges?? We will continue our commitment to the ideals Justice Ginsburg shared of defending America's institutions.

We, at Mormon Women for Ethical Government, will do this by combating misinformation, increasing voter education, and recruiting more principled voters who are tired of the "single-issue voter" mentality that has been sold to us for too long.

One more thing to add...we know there are a lot of heated reactions about @SenatorRomney's statement and position. We understand there are some really critical issues that could be impacted by the Supreme Court. #utpol

However, while we disagree with @SenatorRomney, we don't believe that to be an indictment on an entire religion. Let's remember, it was RBG herself who said, "fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you".
