Eight more Iowans have died from COVID-19, pushing Iowa's total to 1,293 since the first death on March 24.
Deaths were reported in Black Hawk (2), Clay, Clinton, Grundy, Lyon, Scott, and Winnebago Counties.

This is going in the wrong direction!
In addition to the eight additional COVID-19 deaths reported today in Iowa, the state says hospitalizations were up by 16 to 301, including 77 in intensive care and 37 on ventilators.
There were 59 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for COVID-19 in last 24-hour reporting period.
Between 10 a.m. Sept. 22 and 10 a.m. Sept. 23, there were 856 new cases reported, pushing Iowa's total to 82,006.
Subtracting deaths (1,293) and "recoveries" (60,296), there are 20,417 active cases in Iowa - one out of every 155 Iowans!
The 856 new cases were confirmed on 6,080 new reported tests (up from 744,863 to 750,943) - that's a rate of tests reported showing COVID-19 of 14.1%.
Of the new cases, 90 were kids under age 18 who tested positive for coronavirus, pushing total for Iowa kids' cases to 6,595.
The number of Iowa kids under age 18 who have tested positive for coronavirus is up 2,057 since Sept. 1 (when it was 4,538).
It's up 815 in the last week (from 5,780 to 6,595).
We must do more to protect kids, families, staff, and the public from the spread of coronavirus.
The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 394 new cases for total of 31,366.
They had 5 more deaths reported for total of 428.
On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.
After a couple days in second, Sioux County again had the most new cases in the 77 counties.
That's now 7 out of 8 days with more new cases than Story and Johnson Counties.

Not very good. DOC reports 2 more inmates and 4 more staff test positive, only one more "recovery."
With 8 more deaths, hospitalizations up to 301, and 856 confirmed new cases including 90 new cases for Iowa kids under age 18, it remains clear we must do more to slow down and stop the spread.
Gov. Reynolds says it's a public health emergency. Why won't she do more?
