There’s a lot to unpack here, first of all, the ‘free market’ would not have the business opportunity to operate COVID-19 tests at a high price if the gov’t was on top of testing – but they’re leaving people behind.

Everyday Ontarians are waiting hours in line to get their COVID-19 test. While the gov’t has been saying for months that “they’re hammering away at testing” but experts disagree: ontariondp.ca/news/fact-chec…

If testing was as easy and accessible as it should be with a public health system, there would not be a market for $400 testing kits for those that can afford it. Demand the gov’t invest in testing now: ontariondp.ca/demand-covid-1…

Public health care is not only a Canadian value, but a right. This $400 testing kit comes on the heels of BC’s Supreme Court decision around private health care: theglobeandmail.com/canada/british…

And we can’t forget that Ford’s Conservatives have tried opening up our health care to privatization long before the pandemic hit: ontariondp.ca/news/ndp-revea…

Our world class health care system was hanging on by a thread after years of cuts and underfunding. Ford’s Conservatives kept cutting public health spending even as a pandemic approached.

In 2019-2020 Ford's Conservatives spent $500 million less than they promised to: ontariondp.ca/news/fao-shows…

We’ve already seen how privatization can cause harm; our long-term care system has shouldered the heaviest burdens through the pandemic. With privatized care playing a large role in the loss of life: globalnews.ca/news/7059683/c…

And the everyday Ontarians stuck in line? They are also renters saw no rent subsidies from Ford, small business owners left behind, and front-line workers who were left out of pandemic pay support.

Everyday Ontarians are struggling financially as a result of the pandemic. All while Canada’s most wealthy (the ones who can afford a $400 testing kit) are seeing their fortunes grow: thestar.com/news/canada/20…

Now more than ever is the time to fight for public health care, and to fight for every Ontarian. We are calling on Mr. Ford to:
•Invest in health care
•Develop an equitable & accessible testing plan
•Provide paid sick days
•Condemn price gouging
•Put people before profits
