One of the most important things you do can right now is turn off MSNBC, and leave it off for the rest of the election. If I had a dollar for every activist I've seen paralyzed into inaction by the scary ratings-driven bullshit on that network... just turn it off and get to work.

Yes, turn off CNN too. Cable news is not an efficient way to learn the news; you can read the news much more quickly. Cable news is sometimes a place for analysis – but even that far too often takes a backseat to scare tactics aimed at simply keeping you tuned in.

As we get closer to election day, the doomsday hysteria on MSNBC and CNN will only get more out of control. Even Maddow, normally the most insightful person on TV, embarrassed herself tonight with a 'we're going to lose no matter what' narrative. Why watch that kind of shit?

There's only one reason we watch MSNBC: we're interested in politics, and it's politics on steroids. It's an exhilarating nonstop political themed roller coaster ride. You don't learn much, but it's a rush. The hosts know it too, and they'll do anything to keep you tuned in.

Imagine if an MSNBC host went on the air and simply admitted that this is the same old noncompetitive eight point race it's always been, and that Trump's increasingly feeble attempts at shifting things in his direction are unlikely to work.

You'd turn it off.

Hence the problem.

So if you want to win this election, you'll turn off cable TV and spend these final six weeks volunteering and phone banking and registering people.

If you care more about the adrenaline rush than you do about winning, you'll keep staring at the heart pounding bullshit on MSNBC.

And if you choose to go with the MSNBC adrenaline rush instead of putting in the work to defeat Trump, then you can go fuck yourself for all time.
