Medical Council of India (MCI) - Apex body for all decisions about medical education and practice in India was dissolved 2 years ago.
From tomorrow it will be replaced by National Medical Comission (NMC)
Most of you didn't know this. And you probably are wondering how this slight change of alphabet soup works. Does it make any difference?
A bit late for you to ask this question as everything is set in stone now.
Still, some info for all -
MCI - was not fit for purpose. Corruption, incompetence and nepotism was always a problem and everyone was unhappy.
So GoI got rid of it and replaced it with NMC.
NMC has separate sections looking after grad education, post grad education, registration of doctors and ethics.
It is hoped that four verticals will work faster, better.
There is a host of change in ease of setting up medical colleges. This will make it really easy for big corporates to enter field of medical education. And increase no of doctors in country.
Usual beneficiaries may benefit a lot more than others.
Will med-ed be better, cheaper?
"integrative medicine" is now formalised. This was criticized by all modern medicine doctors but their protest is futile as usual.
With NMC and Ayushman Bharat, entire healthcare scene in India is poised for ultra-radical change.
Will this materialize? Will it be good? Will old cleptocracy get hold of new system as well?
You will find out over next 10 years.
It is a very slow process. Most people would not even remember this day and these changes.
Because you will be engrossed in some latest tamasha from sports , politics or bollywood playing on a TV near you and public has short memory.
