Can't believe how many people don't understand the difference between 'socialist' and 'communist'
Socialist: Norway, Finland, France, Canada
Communist: Cuba, China
Capitalist: US, Singapore, South Korea.
Likely reason Canada's economy is so strong during the pandemic is because we are hybrid socialist/capitalist.
Elements of the US capitalist system which favors big business is why so much multinational has come. Socialist France elements keep general population well off too.
Having capitalism to serve big business interest brings them in the door, hence the jobs they bring with them (esp tech and industry). While still having socialism like hc, govt benefits and many community services like libraries and community centers.
Examples of our capitalism are things like circumventing environmental reg. to allow big developers to build stuff. And making it easy to bring in, and make room for big tech to take over Toronto. These contradict strict socialist values, but in the end, grow the economy and jobs
Note: Canada is also listed as capitalist but the hybrid nature of it likely came from the French. French has a major influence in how it is run. It behaved no less socialist than France or Norway did during the pandemic.
I say this because I browse search results and see people say things like this:
Seriously, nothing about Canada is even remotely like the other 2.
They need to go to Toronto. Basically NYC with maple syrup on top. Or Montreal - basically NYC baked in French bread.
Or, go to Vancouver, which is basically Seattle with sushi and ramen sprinkled on top.
