Counted the emissions and environmental destruction for the from the alternatives to livestock co produce have you? Thought not. Major part of the problem.
So it isn't just a question of meat & wool sheepskin leather etc. And it goes further than that. The shift to palm oil and discarding of the same from animal co produce (more nutritious and FAR better for cosmetics etc) didn't work out so well either did it?
So wool sheepskin leather etc also have potential to dramatically save on fossil fuel use. Think back - they didn't used to turn school heating on until 40 degrees back in 60s we all had woollies-now everyone expects to work polyester mid winter 70 degrees. Then carpets etc too
Then leather: so 70kgs emissions pr leather shoes v 35 kgs synth pr (major underestimate in my book but lest's go with it) . So av life leather shoes 20 yrs min (even after that salvagers rescue resole resell). NO resoling these last 6 months then landfill. So 1.4 tonnes v 70kg +
repairs = 30 kgs. 1.4 tonnes v 100kg pp x what 7-8 billion people? Work it out - just shoes. Now belts, jackets, sofas car upholstery etc And leather = co produce of meat same land/resources so we shouldn't really even be counting it as any emissions already accounted in meat
