Leading up to the @HispanicCaucus @HouseJudiciary visit to #ShutDownIrwin, we asked the women inside for their most urgent demand to members like @RepJayapal @RepBarragan @JacksonLeeTX18 and @JoaquinCastrotx.
The answer? Masks & underwear. They're wearing used, stained panties.
The day before the visit to #ShutDownIrwin by @RepJayapal @RepBarragan @RepJimmyGomez @RepRaulRuizMD @RepHankJohnson @RepLouCorrea @RepSylviaGarcia & others, LaSalle gave women new, used underwear. No masks. They've been constructing them out of socks to prevent #COVID19 spread
In the cruelest twist, LaSalle added new underwear to the commissary purchase list. Women bought it. But the underwear never came, and the purchases were cancelled.
Upside? Co-Del succeeded in getting LaSalle to replace the shower curtains and clean (some of) the mold.
The women inside #ShutDownIrwin were particularly proud of being able to show @JoaquinCastrotx and others the mold LaSalle didn't have time to clean up.
Knowing people were finally hearing their voices felt like a victory.
But more is needed.
