I think it’s helpful to realize that every human has a broken sexuality.

People attracted to the opposite sex are just as broken as people attracted to the same sex.

You are not more “broken” because of your attractions. You are broken because of the fall.

EVERYONE is waiting for the coming resurrection of the dead where we will be made whole.

Using language that suggests people who don’t experience normative sexual attractions (asexuality, SSA, etc.) are more broken only serves to fuel shame in people who will likely experience those attractions their entire lives.

It’s violence against them.

I know gay/ssa people who have never watched porn or engaged in sexual acts. And I know straight people who are incredibly sexually addicted.

Your attractions do not dictate levels of sinful behavior. Let’s take the conversation away from these stereotypes

I remember breaking down one night in college because I fully believed that even if I got my act together with sexual sin, I would still be far beyond my peers who were “attracted to the right thing”

I was also told by my father that “at least your brother is sinning with women if he lusts”

We internalize these hierarchies that give some pride while destroying the faith of others.

Call everyone equally to submit themselves to God’s call regarding sexual expression while also seeking to meet the unique needs of different people.

(Though I think I’m as “broken” as straight people, I also need the Church to walk alongside me in celibacy)
