Earlier today, I shared the news that 16 more Iowans have died from COVID-19, for a total of 237 since September 1 and 1,358 since the first death on March 24.
This thread provides hospitalization and case data including county-by-county data.
#IowaMourns
In addition to the 16 deaths reported, Iowa reports hospitalizations for COVID-19 are up again to 407, including 104 in intensive care and 33 on ventilators.
That's up from 269 on Sept. 20 - up 51% in 11 days.
93 people have died during those 11 days, too.
Wrong direction!
Between 10 am Sept. 30 and 10 am Oct. 1, there were 1,057 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing Iowa's total to 89,612.
That means there have been 24,215 new cases just since September 1. In one month.
The 1,057 new cases were confirmed on 6,634 reported tests (up from 797,138 to 803,772). Dividing new cases by reported tests is 15.9%.
Subtracting deaths (1,358) and "recoveries" (69,550), there are 18,704 active cases of coronavirus in Iowa - one out of every 169 people!
The 1,057 new cases included 126 Iowa kids under age 18, for a total of 7,527 who have tested positive for coronavirus.
That's up 760 in the last week.
That's up 2,989 since September 1.
At this rate, over 20,000 more kids will test positive by next April.
The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 544 new cases for total of 35,112 cases.
They had 10 deaths reported, for total of 461.
On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.
Sioux County (pop. 35,000) had the most new cases in the 77 counties today, and for 15th day in the last 16, it had more new cases than Story (pop. 97,000) and Johnson (pop. 147,000).
